Don’t KILL The Tradeshow

I just wrote a blog post for System Contractor News, a leading industry magazine. Here’s a sample:

InfoComm is only days away now. Gosh, manufacturers are filling up my inbox with marketing materials, some good… some laughable. Everyone is getting ready for the show and looking forward to all the tech goodies strewn across the Las Vegas Convention Center show floor.

And yet throughout all this excitement there is the constant chatter about the use and validity of the trade show experience. You just have to look at the InfoComm floor plan to see that some big names aren’t showing up……

Bad Church Video – Example

So a few days ago, I wrote a blog about how “Church Sound Sucks!” and it hurt to write, yet at the same time I think it needed to be said. So last night I was at an event for a ministry here in our city. It was a banquet, had some great speakers, good food, great people. Well my wife was giving me some bad looks as I cringed occasionally during feedback, ringing, and the occasions pop throughout the night. You know the look, it’s the one that says “Shut it! Church Sound Sucks!

Of all the venues in the world where the magnificent art of live sound is practiced, churches have to be the worst. Well, that and your local garage band and their definition of sound (read: noise).

Now I know what you’re thinking: “Matt, you got started in this industry BECAUSE of church sound! This is the very reason you have a business, it’s your life. You’re being sacrilegious!” I know, I know… bear with me for a min, you’ll see where I’m going.
